The new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max launched on September 18, 2026 and there are already complaints on Reddit and other online forums about green screens, unexpected restarts, software crashes and Face ID problems just days after the phones were released. But it’s not clear to what extent the problems are caused and Apple has not publicly said they are because of a widespread hardware or software problem.
One of the most serious complaints is unexpected shutdowns followed by automatic restarts. Some iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max owners have said they have had their phones reboot suddenly when using Face ID or Apple Wallet. Several users have also reported diagnostic files labeled “panic-full” in the phone’s analytics data. These logs can be generated when the operating system does not have a system-level failure but by itself does not mean that the crash is caused by a system failure.
Online reports indicate that the reboot issue may occur repeatedly on some affected devices. One Reddit user said that their iPhone 18 Pro had crashed and restarted about five times during Face ID authentication. Similar reports have been received from users in different countries, but these are not verified as representative of the larger iPhone 18 Pro user base.
Display complaints have also been mentioned. In an Indian Reddit post, there was a screen on an iPhone 18 Pro that was green shortly after buying it. The user later stated that it was replaced after a first discussion with the retailer. In other online reports, distorted display elements, unresponsive touch controls and irregular animations have been mentioned. At this point, it is not clear whether these display problems are related to the restart and software problems or separate incidents.
Software stability has emerged as a concern as well. Some users have noted individual applications crashing or not working as well as failures with Safari and system controls; social media posts have mentioned problems with things like Safari and system controls as well. Since the iPhone 18 Pro series runs iOS 27, some complaints may be related to software compatibility or early launch bugs. So far, there is no evidence of a single software problem for all of these problems.
Face ID has caught everyone’s attention because there have been a number of reported restarts during authentication. The new iPhone 18 Pro models also feature changes to the placement of infrared Face ID hardware which, in turn, could affect Face ID performance. Some people have speculated that this is the reason for some authentication difficulties but it has not been identified as the main reason for the more serious “panic-full” restart incidents.
The complaints come at a very important time for Apple as the iPhone 18 Pro series has only just launched in India. In India, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at ₹1,64,900 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at ₹1,79,900. It’s the premium pricing that makes the report of unexpected crashes and display issues so notable amongst early buyers.
But for now, users experiencing repeated crashes or unusual display behaviour can document the issue and contact Apple Support or an authorised service center. Users can also check their device’s analytics data for “panic-full” logs. Most importantly, the existence of online complaints does not mean that every iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max is affected.
Apple has yet to publicly announce a fix or identify a confirmed cause of the reported problems. With more devices going out to customers and more software updates, it is more likely that the incidents are isolated cases, an early iOS 27 software issue, hardware-related problems, or a mixture of issues that can be solved at once. And until then, the reports are mostly early user complaints and not the evidence of a widespread problem with the iPhone 18 Pro.
