L&T Wins Ultra-Mega Offshore Project as Middle East Energy Spending Grows

Larsen & Toubro has secured an ultra-mega offshore development project worth more than Rs 15,000 crore from a client in the Middle East, significantly strengthening the international energy business of the Indian engineering and infrastructure giant. The company announced the order on Monday, August 17, 2026, describing it as a significant project involving the development of multiple offshore facilities in the region.

The contract has been awarded to L&T's Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore business and covers engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning, or EPCIC. The size of the contract puts it in L&T's "ultra-mega" order category, which the company uses for projects valued at more than Rs 15,000 crore.

This is a good illustration of the growth of L&T in energy infrastructure outside India in big-ticket energy infrastructure projects, particularly on power and logistics. The Middle East is a very important market for L&T and its hydrocarbon, power transmission and infrastructure businesses and L&T is growing in the Middle East.

What the Massive Offshore Order Contains

The newly secured project involves several offshore facilities, but L&T has not publicly identified the Middle Eastern client in its announcement. The scope covers the whole EPCIC cycle, so L&T will be responsible for engineering and procurement of the facilities as well as construction, offshore installation and commissioning of the facilities.

Much of the fabrication work will be done at L&T's integrated manufacturing and fabrication facilities. This is significant since offshore projects need specialised engineering, heavy fabrication capabilities and careful coordination between the onshore manufacturing and offshore installation activities.

L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore has experience with a variety of offshore projects, from fixed platforms to subsea pipelines and structures, brownfield upgrades and modifications, deepwater subsea structures and pipelines as well as decommissioning programmes. This experience will be essential to execute a project with many facilities and complex offshore operations.

The company has also secured major offshore contracts in the Middle East. Large offshore platforms, brownfield integration and brownfield work have all been in its sights previously for its experience in the region's demanding energy market.

Why the Order Matters for L&T

L&T’s new contract is strategic in nature as it boosts the company’s position in the Middle East at a time when countries in the region continue to invest heavily in energy infrastructure, and the company said the project is a manifestation of growing investments in the future energy sector, which is why it will help to meet future demand.

T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director and Senior Executive Vice President and Head of L&T’s Energy Hydrocarbon Division, described the development as one of the most significant offshore developments now underway in the Middle East. He also highlighted the scale and complexity of the project, which will require deep engineering expertise, integrated execution capabilities and coordination across multiple workstreams.

Big international contracts are important for L&T not only because of their individual value but because they also enhance the company’s order pipeline and show its ability to compete for complex engineering projects in a global market.

The Energy Hydrocarbon business has always prioritized expansion in international markets and opportunities in areas where large-scale energy investments are ongoing. L&T’s annual reports have highlighted the Middle East as an important market for hydrocarbon operations with significant investment in oil, gas and petrochemical projects.

The new contract also comes amid continuing order momentum for L&T across its wider business. The company is winning projects across power transmission, infrastructure, construction and energy, and that diversifies its overall order book.

For the Middle East, in turn, the project is emblematic of the continuing need for offshore infrastructure to meet energy requirements. Developing offshore facilities requires significant investment and specialist contractors who deal with engineering, fabrication, marine installation and commissioning at scale.

The order could therefore provide work across various phases of L&T’s operations from engineering and procurement to fabrication at its manufacturing facilities and offshore execution. Such integrated capabilities can be a major advantage when working on large-scale projects with technical and operational interfaces.

Even though the contract’s value is well above Rs 15,000 crore, the project-specific details such as the client and the exact offshore assets have not been revealed in this latest announcement. L&T’s regulatory disclosure also confirms the great scope of this project and the ultra-mega status.

It's a big deal for the L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore business. With Middle Eastern energy companies still developing offshore assets and upgrading existing infrastructure, L&T's latest order further solidifies its position as a major Indian engineering company competing for large international energy contracts.

With fabrication, engineering and offshore execution all part of the project scope, the order will showcase L&T's end-to-end capabilities in one of the world's most competitive energy markets. It is also consistent with the company's larger strategy of expanding its international presence through large, technically complex infrastructure and energy projects.
