Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is unstoppable at the box office, not only in India and abroad but in terms of box office strength. In the lead role is Ranveer Singh and movie is the biggest Bollywood movie of recent times in terms of record-breaking and new achievement.
The result makes even more impressive is that the film’s performance is much of South Indian market-dominated, like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala (which Hindi movies rarely deliver; the places where Hindi films have historically struggled to succeed). In spite of this trend, Dhurandhar 2 has proved to have enjoyed a huge success despite a wide-reaching international reach and a combination of word of mouth.
On the world stage too, the film is unstoppable. It already crossed the ₹1200 crore mark inside 11 days of release and is heading toward the coveted ₹1800 crore mark. If it hits this billion dollar mark it can become India’s second highest grossing movie.
The biggest milestone was North America, where Dhurandhar 2 crossed the longtime record set by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Directed by S. S. Rajamouli, and starring Prabhas, Baahubali 2 had remained the all-time highest grossing Bollywood film in North America with an income of $20.19 million (about ₹192 crore).
Now Dhurandhar 2, directed by Aditya Dhar, has crossed $19.33 million (around ₹183 crore) and we expect Baahubali 2’s record to be a reality soon. With Hindi films breaking a 100-year-old record now we also understand it is a big thing in Indian cinema and this has been a history for about ten years in Indian cinema till now.
Baahubali producer Shobu Yarlagadda commended the team of actors for this success. He also posted on social media saying he watched Dhurandhar 2 and liked very much it and thanks for this film being a new box office king in India too abroad.
Importantly however, Dhurandhar too had a strong start in North America: about $19.70m (₹184 crore), which was less than Baahubali 2. Yet the sequel did what the first didn't because this movie didn’t, which was succeed in box office.
The 2017 movie Baahubali 2 grossed over ₹1800 crore across the board, and is still among the top ten all time. No one is in front of them: Dangal with Aamir Khan has already collected ₹2200 crore worldwide. At this moment in time for film industry there is no single movie bigger than Bollywood’s highest grosser Bollywood movies, and we have watched Baahubali 2 so far;
With the current pace, Dhurandhar 2 is bound to contend with these records and even raise box office bar at which to make in Indian cinema.
