An Indian citizen was among 12 people killed in recent Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told on Tuesday, September 1.
The overnight attack targeted residential buildings, railway facilities and other civilian facilities.
The new strikes came as Russia carried out another large-scale aerial assault involving ballistic missiles, jet-powered drones and other weapons.
Ukrainian authorities said the attacks affected Kyiv and several other regions, including Odesa, Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipro.
Zelenskyy confirmed the death toll in a post on X, saying that 12 people had been killed, including an Indian national, while dozens of others were injured. He expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the attacks.
Railway Depot Hit In Kyiv
Kyiv was among the worst affected areas. A Russian strike on a railway depot in the capital killed seven people, Zelenskyy said. A number of railway workers were among those killed.
The attacks also hit residential areas. In Boryspil, in the Kyiv region, a five-storey residential building was hit and around 50 people were evacuated. Ukrainian authorities reported four deaths and 13 injuries in the city.
Emergency response teams were deployed across the affected areas. Zelenskyy said nearly 350 first responders were working in Kyiv and the surrounding region to deal with the aftermath of the strikes.
Odesa And Other Regions Also Targeted
Odesa and its surrounding area were also attacked, with guided aerial bombs and drones hitting the area, the reports say. The attacks damaged civilian and export infrastructure and thousands of families were left without electricity.
Zelenskyy also said a border crossing with Romania was damaged as well as infrastructure associated with exports. The continuing attacks have added additional pressure on Ukraine’s already strained energy and civilian infrastructure.
The latest attack is the sixth consecutive day Russian forces have attacked Kyiv and around it. Reuters reported that the attacks were so widespread that residential areas and railway facilities were destroyed.

The death of an Indian citizen has added a new dimension to the latest escalation. The identity and other details of the deceased Indian national had not been disclosed in the reports available at the time of publication.
The death comes at a time of continued engagement and dialogue between India and Russia and Ukraine and when New Delhi has been calling for dialogue and a peaceful solution to the conflict.
