SpaceX landed its much-anticipated “Lucky Flight 13” mission successfully from Starbase, Texas, in a big way on Friday.
The mission went as planned and got it safely to the stratosphere and further solidified Elon Musk’s aerospace company’s position as the world’s leading spaceflight provider.
The launch attracted thousands of space fans, who came to see it in person and through SpaceX’s live webcast. Good weather conditions allowed for a perfectly smooth lift off as the rocket soared into the sky and continued SpaceX's long-term success record.
And Mission Lifted Off Without Delay
The rocket lit up just as it was going to launch and sent up a beautiful display as it passed through the atmosphere. Engineers kept an eye on everything during the mission from SpaceX’s mission control center and confirmed everything was running as planned.
Within minutes of launch, the rocket successfully separated from the stages and the payload was able to proceed to its destination orbit.
Successful Booster Recovery
One of the mission’s highlights was landing the Falcon 9 first stage booster. The reusable booster landed safely on SpaceX’s droneship in the Atlantic Ocean, bolstering the company’s reusable rocket technology that has dramatically cut launch costs over the past decade.
Reusable boosters are still one of SpaceX’s biggest innovations, allowing the company to quickly turnaround between launches and drastically reduce the cost of accessing space.

Why is it called “Lucky Flight 13"
Despite superstition around the number 13, SpaceX celebrated the achievement with a mission called “Lucky Flight 13” and used the name to describe the mission. This is an endorsement of the company’s engineering and operations success rather than the number.
The mission also showcases SpaceX’s ability to keep a high launch cadence and to reliably deliver payloads safely into orbit.
SpaceX's Growing Launch Record
SpaceX has been one of the world’s leading space companies in the years since then and has become one of the world’s leading companies in space, having deployed a huge number of satellites, cargo to the International Space Station, and crewed missions for NASA, and is building Starship, a fully reusable spacecraft to be used on future missions to the Moon and Mars.
