Trump also said “zero” illegal migrants have been admitted into the country during the period covered by his administration’s figures.
Trump has consistently cited the immigration policies of his administration as one of its key accomplishments.
In recent remarks he said the border situation had changed dramatically compared with what he described as an open and insecure border under the previous administration.
”We have the strongest border we’ve ever had now,” Trump said about his immigration record. He has also claimed zero illegal aliens had been admitted to the United States over a period of more than a year. Similar claims have been made in his speeches throughout 2026.
President Trump has said stricter border enforcement, increased deportations and tougher immigration policies have contributed to a decline in migrant arrivals.
Border security is a central part of his domestic agenda; federal agencies target enforcement and removing people who they think are illegally in the country.
Trump has also argued that fewer migrants are attempting to make the journey toward the US because they think they will not be allowed to enter. He has attributed the decline in attempted crossings to his administration’s deterrence policies.
The impact of the tougher approach is also visible along Mexico’s northern border. Reuters reported that migrant shelters in Ciudad Juarez have seen a dramatic drop in occupancy as fewer migrants are trying to head north toward the United States.

However, Trump’s use of the word “zero” needs context. His phrases about illegal migrants have no reference to migrants or foreign nationals entering the country through any legal route; they speak of what he calls illegal immigrants being admitted into the United States.
In his State of the Union address in February 2026, Trump also claimed that zero illegal aliens had been admitted during the last nine months, but people could still enter the country legally.
Immigration is still a very sensitive issue in the United States and Trump is positioning border enforcement as the most important metric of his administration’s performance.
His claims are likely to be a focal point of the political clash as the country approaches the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump’s comments now back up a message that has become central to his presidency: tougher enforcement, fewer attempted crossings and tighter immigration enforcement.
His administration still touts the border as something that has been a significant policy succes critics and immigration advocates are still questioning some aspects of the government’s approach.
