Trump Warns "Civilization Will Die" as Tehran Synagogue Destroyed

In a day of devastating military escalation and chilling rhetoric, U.S. President Donald Trump announced Sunday that “a whole civilization will die tonight” as joint U.S.-Israeli forces opened fire across Iran. The overnight campaign has already killed at least 15 and has brought to its end the historic Rafi-Nia Synagogue in the heart of Tehran.

The outbreak of violence has come just hours before a key 8:00 p.m. ET (3:30 a.m. Tehran time) deadline set by the White House. President Trump has ordered Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately or face the full collapse of its national infrastructure.

Trump’s warnings were stark at Truth Social, as he said he was about to initiate “Complete and Total Regime Change” leading to something “revolutionarily wonderful.” I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will... They’ll have no bridges. They’ll have no power plants. They’ll have no anything.”

The most culturally important casualty of overnight strikes was the Rafi-Nia Synagogue (also known as the Khorasaniha Synagogue). Iranian state media reported that the temple was “completely destroyed” after a projectile hit an adjacent residential building in a narrow alley in central Tehran.

Photographs from the scene showed civil defense workers sifting through smoking ruins and Hebrew prayer books and Torah scrolls buried in the dust. The Jewish representative in the Iranian parliament, Homayoun Sameh, condemned the timing of the strike during the Passover holidays and accused the “Zionist regime” of showing no sympathy for the Jewish community.

The human toll across the country continues to rise: Shahriar: Nine people were killed, including women and children, when an explosive projectile hit a residential neighborhood in Tehran. Pardis: Rescuers found six bodies deep in the rubble of apartment blocks east of Tehran.

The infrastructure: Strikes have been successful in targeting Kharg Island, which is the heart of Iran’s oil export industry, as well as bridges and a train station. The damage is so great that at least 1,900 Iranians have been killed, with UNESCO-listed heritage sites including the Golestan Palace and the ancient Grand Bazaar under attack. Iran is refusing to accept the U.S. ceasefire proposal and also insists that Western military presence in the Gulf be withdrawn forever.

As the clock ticks down to the Tuesday night cutoff, the world waits. With the King Fahd Causeway closed and there are hundreds of thousands of military forces throughout the Middle East on high alert, the “most important moment in the long and complex history of the World” seems to have arrived.
