The UAE has officially declared 28 August 2026 as a public holiday to celebrate Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, one of the most important religious occasions for Muslims across the world. Public and private sector workers in the UAE will also get a day off to celebrate Prophet Muhammad's birthday.
The decision was taken by UAE authorities in line with the country’s official holiday calendar. The holiday will take place on Mawlid Al Nabi, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s birth anniversary on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar. Based on lunar cycles, the date of observance varies from year to year in the Gregorian calendar.
The announcement has been welcomed by residents of the UAE because it’s an opportunity for families to be together and participate in religious and cultural activities associated with the occasion. Mawlid Al Nabi is a time to reflect on the teachings, values and life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose message continues to influence millions of people everywhere.
Hence, the UAE government often declares public holidays on major Islamic holidays, because of the country’s culture and religious heritage. Besides Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha, Islamic New Year, and Commemoration Day, the Prophet’s birthday is also an important day in the national calendar.
