Sergio Gor, US ambassador to India, held talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in New Delhi on the importance of the India-US relationship at a time of growing geopolitical challenges.
The meeting comes as the two countries are also looking to build cooperation in defence, security, technology and strategic issues. Gor’s interaction with Doval is of great importance as India and the United States look to keep close contact with each other on issues of regional and global security.
Gor stressed the importance of this partnership between Washington and New Delhi as it is critical for global security. His comments are an indication of the strategic importance both countries put on their relationship in the context of the changing security calculus in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
India and the U.S. have been steadily engaged in the bilateral relationship for the past years. Defence cooperation, intelligence sharing, counterterrorism work and cooperation on emerging security threats have played an important role.
The two countries also have increased cooperation in critical and emerging technologies. Artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cyber security, space and advanced defence technologies are increasingly becoming part of the strategic conversation between the two countries.
Gor's meeting with Doval is also being held in the context of several international developments that have placed more emphasis on partnerships between major democracies. India should have good relations with the other world powers as part of its general foreign and security policy.
For Washington, India is a key strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region. The two countries have been working together through bilateral processes as well as through the Quad, which also includes Australia and Japan.
Gor's interaction with senior Indian officials is expected to help to understand New Delhi’s strategic priorities as he takes on his diplomatic responsibilities. His meetings are likely to be closely watched as India and the US deal with regional security issues, trade, technology and defence cooperation.
Ajit Doval, one of India’s most powerful strategic policymakers, has been instrumental in establishing the country's security and diplomatic stance. His conversations with senior foreign officials are centered on regional issues and counterterrorism and strategic cooperation.
The recent meeting is therefore important in more than just diplomatic terms. India and the U.S. have made a number of such meetings in the last few years as they are in the process of forging a partnership that will work well in a more complex international landscape.
As global security challenges grow, closer cooperation between New Delhi and Washington will be a key component of their foreign policy agenda.
Gor and Doval’s relationship suggests strategic communication between the two countries is still an important focus.
