The mortal remains of three Andhra Pradesh tourists who were killed in a tragic boat accident in Vietnam have been brought back to Hyderabad, the grief for their families and communities is great.
The tourists were among a group of Indian tourists traveling to Vietnam when the sightseeing boat collided with a Vietnamese boat and sunk.
According to Vietnamese officials, the accident occurred on a recreational boat trip that involved several tourists. While the exact cause of the mishap is still under investigation by Vietnamese authorities, preliminary reports indicate that adverse weather conditions and rough waters could have been factors.
The three deceased tourists were from Andhra Pradesh and had traveled to Vietnam as part of a holiday tour. After the accident, local search and recovery teams were involved. They could not save the victims.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam worked closely with Vietnamese authorities to complete legal formalities such as identification, documentation and transportation of the mortal remains. Family members were in contact with officials and the bodies were brought back to India.
The mortal remains arrived at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the presence of grieving family members, relatives of the deceased and officials. At the airport the emotional scenes were there as the bereaved family was left feeling much worse. The bodies were later taken back to their hometowns in Andhra Pradesh for final rites.

The Andhra Pradesh government expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and gave them all the assistance necessary. State officials worked with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Embassy and local authorities to ensure the repatriation process was done with no undue delay.
The Ministry of External Affairs also expressed sympathy over the tragic event and appreciated Vietnamese authorities’ support in the rescue and repatriation of the victims. The embassy was always in contact with the families of the victims throughout the process.
The incident has once again underlined the importance of safety precautions in water tourism. Tourists should be aware of weather advisories and safety and wear life jackets when boating or water-based recreation activities are planned and tourists should also follow safety precautions, the experts say.
