Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled a sweeping welfare measure designed to safeguard elderly parents from neglect. Government employees who fail to take care of their parents will face a deduction of 10% from their salary. The deducted total will be directly put into the parents' accounts, which means that they will receive financial help even if their children do not provide it voluntarily.
The Chief Minister said it was in the interests of families and seniors to take this step. Many older parents, meanwhile, are either neglected -- as in most elderly people today-- or without assistance at all, regardless of their children working for a living in official government posts. By bringing in such arrangements, the government wants to promote accountability and to encourage children to feel responsible for their own behavior. Revanth Reddy reiterated that if feeling neglected, there will be a process available for parents to lodge complaints.
Once confirmed, the diversion of earnings will be enforced. The public announcement was part of a package of welfare plans, starting off with the establishment of daycare centers for older adults as well as the establishment of a new health policy in the 2026–27 budget.
Both its effect and the general approach on government policy reflect a shift in policy from a conservative to a forward-looking approach in which the elderly's benefits are gradually improving, but concern has also been piqued about the process of operation and supervisory oversight in the states. However, this Telangana government action signifies a proactive take on not to have old people be left out of the old hands being prepared for state development.,
