Bengaluru Delivery Executive Arrested for Allegedly Flashing Woman Inside Apartment in Marathahalli

A 22-year-old delivery executive has been arrested for allegedly exposing himself to a woman in her apartment in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli neighbourhood, police said Sunday. It has raised new fears over the safety of residents in this city especially women living alone and has revived questions over security protocols employed by delivery service providers and residential apartment complexes.

The police said the incident occurred when the delivery executive came to the woman’s apartment to deliver an order. After learning about the incident, she went to the police and filed a formal complaint. The police collected her statement and started an investigation.

Police said the accused was traced and arrested very soon after the complaint was filed. He is now being questioned and further legal action will take place in line with the law. The complainant is not being revealed further about her personal situation to protect her privacy.

Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment complex, entry and exit records, and other evidence to establish the sequence of events. Statements from security personnel, apartment management, and any possible witnesses are also expected to be part of the investigation.

Police officials have stressed that the accusations are being investigated and accused persons should be granted due legal process.

The incident has once more raised the concern of women’s safety during doorstep deliveries. With the explosion of online shopping, food delivery, grocery delivery, and courier services, millions of delivery personnel visit residential buildings every day. There is no doubt that the vast majority do their job with professionalism, but each case of misconduct has raised the issue of how the safety system should be improved.

Resident welfare associations and apartment management committees have also taken on more sophisticated security measures like digital visitor management systems, identity verification, CCTV surveillance, and security personnel at entry gates. Many gated communities now require delivery executives to register before entering residential premises, and some encourage contactless deliveries or deliveries at fixed reception points.

In terms of urban safety, experts think both delivery platforms and residential societies can enhance security by having stronger background checks, training on professional conduct, and grievance mechanisms in place. And technology is also important, with GPS tracking, delivery logs, and real-time communication helping in accountability.

In light of this, residents were asked to report allegations of harassment or suspicious behaviour and conduct should they have done so soon and not let them go unnoticed. And more rapidly investigators keep evidence in its entirety, examine surveillance footage, and take appropriate action where necessary.

Legal experts say Indian law has provisions to deal with harassment and acts intended to insult or outrage the dignity of another person. Any criminal liability, however, depends on the investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings. All accused individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The incident has also brought up workplace ethics in the rapidly expanding gig economy. Delivery platforms have codes of conduct for their delivery partners and can take action if employees or partners are found to have violated company policies. Many companies also offer customers in-app safety features and support channels to report inappropriate behaviour.

Women’s safety advocates have welcomed the quick police response and reiterated the need for secure neighborhoods. Residents need to know that they are safe and service providers need to take care of their safety, they say.

As Bengaluru is experiencing rapid urban growth and a growing reliance on app-based services, the safety of the customers and service personnel is a shared responsibility of law enforcement agencies, residential associations, companies, and the public.

The Marathahalli investigation is still ongoing, and police have said further action will be taken based on the evidence gathered. The public should not be distracted or speculate and just let the legal process take place, the police said, and have said they will do everything possible to respond to harassment complaints as soon as they are received and as per the law.
