A 60-year-old AIMIM party worker and real estate agent was stabbed to death by a group of people in Hyderabad's Vattepally area on Sunday night. Md Mahboob Ali, who lived about 100 metres from his home, was attacked as he returned after buying food.
The attackers arrived on two bikes and began a sudden attack on Ali, according to police. He was stabbed multiple times and died while being treated at a hospital near the city centre, police said.
The Attack Took Place Near His Home
According to the Times of India report, Mahboob Ali had gone to Almas Hotel near his residence at around 10 pm on Sunday to buy food. When he returned home, he stopped about 100 metres from his house to talk to an acquaintance.
While Ali was talking to the man, six people arrived at the spot on two motorcycles, police said. They attacked Ali and stabbed him several times, police said.
Rajendranagar CP Rajendranagar S Srinivas said the attack appeared to have been carried out without any provocation. Police are now investigating the circumstances behind the assault and trying to establish the motive behind the killing.
Residents rushed Ali to a nearby hospital at the time of the attack. But he died of injuries at around 10.45 p.m. while he was being treated.
The incident has triggered an investigation in the Vattepally area, and police are trying to find and catch those involved in the attack, he said.
Police Identify Prime Suspect
The police identified a local man named Mohsin as the prime suspect after the murder. Special teams have now been formed, and a manhunt has been launched to locate him and the other suspects involved in the attack.
No motive for the killing has been established by police. The investigation into the period of time just before the attack and the possible connection between the victim and the suspects is ongoing, he added.
The family of the victim has expressed suspicion about the involvement of a person known to them. AIMIM MLC Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi said the family believed that a person was involved and that police were investigating the matter.
The reason for the attack is still under investigation. The identity and role of the other alleged attackers will also have to be established as police continue their investigation.
