Several villages in the area are currently under floodwater, and residents in the affected area are coping with damaged homes, waterlogged agricultural land, and disrupted daily life. Many families have been suffering from the difficulty of getting food, drinking water, and other basic supplies as road transportation is severely disrupted.
Residents of Kathpuri village are pleading with the authorities for immediate assistance and have appealed to the administration to restore the bridge and accelerate the relief action and recovery process. With this bridge collapse, the village is now isolated, and people and emergency services are unable to reach the village.
As flood fears grew, Assam Cabinet Minister Charan Boro visited the affected areas with the district’s Deputy Commissioner to check the situation on the ground. The officials met the residents, inspected damaged infrastructure, and assessed the immediate needs of those affected by the floods.
The minister told residents during the visit that the state government was paying close attention to the situation and would take all necessary steps to ensure relief was provided and normalcy returned to the community as soon as possible.
A comprehensive damage assessment has already begun to evaluate the extent of losses caused by the floods. The damage to public infrastructure, residential properties, roads, bridges, and agricultural land will be assessed, and an appropriate restoration process should be developed.
The administration has stated that relief efforts will be carried out as a high priority, focusing on providing food, drinking water, medical care, and temporary shelter for affected families. Restoration of road connectivity and damaged infrastructure has also been identified as a priority.
The Central Government has assured Assam of all possible assistance in dealing with the flood crisis. Water levels are still being monitored, and the situation in flood-affected districts is being managed.
Flooding remains a serious problem in Assam during the monsoon season, with overflowing rivers frequently inundating low-lying areas and damaging critical infrastructure. Residents living in the most vulnerable regions are advised to be prepared, follow government advice, and respond to rescue and relief teams when necessary.
As rescue, relief, and restoration efforts continue, the immediate priority for the stranded residents will be to aid those stranded, restore connectivity to isolated villages such as Kathpuri, and mitigate the further impact of the monsoon floods.
