Abhishek is a third-semester Geography student, who was alleged to have been attacked by students at the PG-3 hostel in the midst of an even minor fight over drinking water. If no casualties were reported, the incident could possibly have been an argument over drinking water according to initial reports, as many student sources suggest.

The friend of Abhishek’s friend had gone to a room nearby and took a drink to drink water, where one or more of the others and his friends would get in some sort of argument or dispute. The arguments became nasty and his friend was allegedly attacked at once. When Abhishek intervened and confronted the attackers, too at this time he was targeted, they claimed.

The accused individuals are reported to be Arun, Dikshit, Vinay and Akshay together with others. Rumors alleged that the group not only attacked Abhishek but also called in additional students from outside to intensify the attack.

There have apparently been CCTV images of the time to show the sequence so a piece of evidence will be available for the ongoing investigation. The documents seem to show an assault on the victim by a group individuals.

One of the accused, Arun, has a history of court-related cases. There are already four cases registered against him at Jnanabharathi Police Station.

Abhishek has submitted a complaint to the university administration and the police as well. A case was registered and there has since been no complaints filed with the Jnanabharathi police station and inquiry into the matter has been launched.

These concerns raise students and adults' fears about campus safety in the late-night hours. Much of the concern seems to stem from high school security and police-related issues and from immediate action against individuals who do it.

And university officials are expected to take disciplinary action based on the findings, and police are still reviewing the CCTV footage and gathering information from witnesses.

Hence what happened was an indictment of the crisis of campus safety as well as conflict resolution mechanisms that we might look toward if more violent incidents occur in the educational landscape.
