A shocking murder case in Bengaluru’s outskirts is on the rise, in which a 30-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her live-in partner, who fled the scene, leaving her body in a rented home. The incident was reported from Patalamma Layout in Jigani, for which the locals of the area received shock waves in society.
Akshata, a native of Ilkal, was killed in the incident. Police have launched an intensive search to locate the prime suspect, Nana Saheb, who has been absconding since the incident.
The case was first noticed on June 20 when residents and the house owner noticed a foul smell coming from a rented house in Patalamma Layout. The owner was suspicious and went to check the property. He saw Akshata’s body, in a very deteriorated state, inside a locked house, looking in through the window.
The house owner immediately alerted the Jigani Police Station. Police first filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and began preliminary investigations to determine the cause of death.
But after the post-mortem examination report was issued, the case turned into a tragic one. Medical evidence showed that Akshata died by strangulation, and so it was homicide and not natural or accidental death. Based on the report, police transformed the case into a murder investigation and intensified efforts to find and arrest the accused.
According to police sources, Akshata was married to a man named Krishna, whom she married in 2014 following a love relationship, and she had two children, a son and a daughter. Krishna worked in the woodworking industry, but Akshata was in a saree-weaving unit.
Investigators found that it was at the weaving factory that Akshata met Nana Saheb, a co-worker. Their friendship eventually blossomed into an extramarital relationship, according to the police. Akshata later left her husband and children and moved in with Nana Saheb.
The couple moved to Jigani in November of last year and rented a house in Patalamma Layout after introducing themselves as husband and wife to the landlord. Since then, they have been in the same house.
Police suspect tensions or disputes have arisen between the two in recent weeks. Nana Saheb might have strangled Akshata during an argument before locking the house and fleeing, detectives say.
Special police teams are being formed to track the accused and work to piece together the evidence, and the sequence of events leading to the crime has been launched. Police are also interviewing people who knew the couple to know what happened and could have caused the tragedy.
The murder has raised concerns among residents while police continue their search for the absconding suspect. More details will come with the investigation.
