Finding a free parking spot in the heart of Bengaluru is about to become a thing of the past. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has officially announced the implementation of a comprehensive "Pay and Park" system across 35 prominent roads in the city’s central business district and surrounding hubs.

The move is designed to curb unauthorized parking, streamline traffic flow, and generate an estimated annual revenue of ₹16 crore for the municipal body.

New Parking Charges in Bengaluru

Under the new policy, parking spots have been clearly marked on the roadside, and users will be charged based on the duration of stay and vehicle type:

  • Two-Wheelers (Bikes): ₹15 per hour | ₹75 for a full day.
  • Four-Wheelers (Cars): ₹30 per hour | ₹150 for a full day.

Monthly Pass for Regular Commuters

Recognizing the needs of office employees and local shopkeepers, the GBA has introduced a monthly subscription model:

  • Bike Monthly Pass: ₹1,500
  • Car Monthly Pass: ₹3,000

Major Roads Covered Under the Scheme

The project covers approximately 23.33 km of road length, providing space for 1,252 vehicles (926 bikes and 326 cars) simultaneously. Some of the key roads include:

  • Central Area: Church Street, Brigade Road, Museum Road, M.G. Road, B.V.K. Iyengar Road, Commercial Street, and St. John’s Road.
  • Residential/Commercial Hubs: Sampige Road (Malleshwaram), D.V.G. Road (Basavanagudi), 100 Feet and 80 Feet Roads (Indiranagar), and Cambridge Road.
  • Other Noted Streets: Vani Vilas Road, Kanakapura Road (select stretches), Cunningham Road, and Millers Road.

Strict Enforcement Against Illegal Parking

GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao emphasized that parking will only be permitted within the designated marked boxes. Any vehicle found parked outside these zones or on non-notified roads will face heavy fines and potential towing.

The tender for managing these parking lots has been awarded for a period of three years, with a provision for a two-year extension. Already, marking activities have commenced on several roads to guide motorists.
