Due to the highly anticipated IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT), the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has issued an official clarification dismissing the news about free metro travel for RCB fans.
Recent social media posts suggested that RCB supporters will be able to travel free of cost on Namma Metro services on May 31, 2026, the day of the IPL final in Ahmedabad. The messages gained momentum among cricket fans and confused metro travel in Bengaluru.
In response to the misinformation, BMRCL categorically stated that it has never announced or approved any scheme offering free metro travel for RCB fans or any other group of passengers in connection with the IPL final. The metro authority stated that the claims being spread online are completely false and have no official backing.
According to BMRCL, some people and private entities are spreading false information through social media posts, advertisements, and digital messages. It has not authorised any company, organisation, or agency to advertise, promote, or advocate that metro travel will be free on the occasion of the IPL final.
The clarification comes as excitement builds for the championship match between RCB and Gujarat Titans. Bengaluru’s cricket fans are following the team’s progress, so false information about transportation benefits seems to have spread across several online platforms.
BMRCL said that all passengers using Namma Metro services should continue to purchase valid tickets or use approved travel methods. Commuters can travel with smart cards, QR tickets, National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), or other travel instruments recognised by the metro corporation. All trips will also be subject to the existing fare structure, rules, and conditions of metro services.
The corporation has asked the public not to rely on unofficial social media posts or unverified advertisements about metro services. Passengers should only refer to official BMRCL announcements, verified communication channels, and media releases for accurate information.
Officials said misinformation can create confusion among commuters and put stress on metro services. They advised citizens to be wary of spreading messages on social media and to verify information through official sources.
BMRCL has also stated that it remains committed to providing safe and reliable metro services to all passengers and will work with the public to prevent false information about metro services that could mislead commuters and affect public confidence.
As cricket fever grips Bengaluru ahead of the IPL final, authorities are encouraging fans to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant against fake messages circulating online. The metro operator’s clarification serves as an important reminder that official information should always be verified before being accepted or shared.
With no special free-travel scheme announced, Namma Metro passengers will be expected to follow the normal ticketing and fare regulations in place throughout the network on May 31.
