One of the tourist destinations of Nandi Hills, a popular tourist spot in Karnataka in Chikkaballapur district, where police found a young woman dead at a homestay, an investigation revealed to police a murder that could be linked to domestic violence and assault. The prime suspect was her boyfriend, who later tried to take his own life.
Surabhi is the deceased, and the injured man is Sanjeet Ali. The incident happened in a homestay located near Nandi Hills, a tourist and weekend getaway spot on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The couple had checked into the homestay before the tragic incident occurred, investigators say. An argument or dispute between the two may have erupted and turned into a violent clash, investigators believe, and Surabhi might have been physically assaulted and killed.
After that attack, Sanjeet Ali allegedly attempted suicide and was found in critical condition and taken to a hospital. Emergency responders rushed him to a hospital, and he was admitted to Chikkaballapur District Hospital, where he is being treated.
Police officials have not yet confirmed Surabhi's cause of death. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and forensic experts will investigate the nature of the incident. Medical examination is expected to be key to establishing whether the death was due to assault or other causes, authorities said.
The case falls under the jurisdiction of Nandi Giridhama Police Station. Shortly after the incident was reported to police officers, they arrived at the homestay and searched it for evidence. They collected evidence from the scene and interviewed the homestay staff and other people who might have conversed with the couple before the incident.
Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police (SP) also visited the scene to personally examine and investigate the scene and analyse the progress of the investigation. Senior officers are closely monitoring the case due to the suspicious nature of the death and public interest in the incident.
Investigators are looking at everything from the nature of the couple’s relationship to recent interactions and the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Digital evidence will be collected from mobile phone records and CCTV footage from the property and surrounding areas, police said.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and among visitors to the Nandi Hills region. Residents and tourists alike have expressed concern about the tragic circumstances surrounding the case.
Investigators have asked the public not to speculate about the incident until all the details of the incident are known and the investigation is complete. Police said all options are being reviewed and conclusions will be drawn on the case only after forensic and medical data have been completed.
