The accident happened at Ghazipur on Thursday afternoon and the city is now on high alert for reckless driving and road safety in the capital.

According to the police, the girl was a Class 5 student at a government school in Mayur Vihar Phase-3.

She was walking home with her mother along the Ghazipur-Mandawali road when a speeding e-rickshaw hit her from the front. The accident took place between 1.30 pm and 2 pm.

The impact was severe. The child fell into the path of the approaching bus and was seriously injured when the collision took place, according to media reports.

She was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for treatment. She died of injuries in the hospital despite efforts at the hospital.

The e-rickshaw driver fled the scene after the crash, and police traced and arrested the accused driver as part of the investigation.

The accident is being investigated and the speed of the vehicle and the events immediately before the collision are being examined.

The death has once again brought attention to road safety in Delhi where e-rickshaws, buses, cars and pedestrians often share congested roads.

E-rickshaws are now a large part of short-distance transportation in many parts of the capital, but speeding, traffic violations and enforcement are still a matter of concern after serious accidents.

What was a normal journey to school for the victim’s family turned into a nightmare. Such a collision indicates the need for more caution around schoolchildren and pedestrians in the afternoon, when people are going home.

Experts and residents have always flagged responsible driving and increased enforcement of traffic laws as important. Public and shared transport vehicles are expected to be extremely careful in busy residential areas and near schools.

The Ghazipur accident is still under investigation by police. The case has also revived calls for stronger measures to prevent speeding and protect vulnerable road users, including children, pedestrians, and elderly people.

The young school student’s death is a grim reminder that careless driving can have permanent effects. Drivers need to behave with a certain level of responsibility and law enforcement needs to be strong.
