A disturbing case of alleged child abuse in Delhi’s Maujpur area has been reported of a child being assaulted by a woman in a playschool.
Delhi Police have arrested a female attendant in the case and one other woman connected to the school has been asked to take part in the investigation.
The case was registered after the child’s father approached police with a complaint of physical assault, police said.
Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act the matter was booked under those provisions. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the role of other people linked to the school.
The child’s parents were aware of the child’s behaviour and injuries, they said. Navneet Chaudhary, the boy’s father, said his son was troubled for several days.
The child came home from school on August 18, he began throwing up and dizzy and his parents took him to a paediatrician who diagnosed swelling around his eyes and advised the family to consult an ENT specialist.
According to the father, the ENT examination showed significant swelling in the child’s ear canals.
The family were then concerned that the injuries could have been caused by physical assault and sought access to CCTV footage from the school.

The family claims the footage depicted disturbing scenes involving their child. CCTV footage also shows a woman assaulting the child inside the playschool, police have said.
According to the footage, the child was restrained and kept in a state of physical abuse. The footage has now been examined by authorities for its value.
The father also believes the responsibility of the school management, the CCTV monitoring should have been there to identify any mistreatment on the premises, he added.
He is demanding action against anyone who was not able to police if anyone who could have been responsible for abuse in the child, the father said.
Police have named several school officials in the case, including the director, principal, teacher and attendant.

The attendant has been arrested, and the teacher has been asked to join the investigation. Police are also investigating the school’s senior management.
The incident raised new questions about safety standards in playschools and the responsibility of staff who have a role to play in protecting children.
Parents normally give them their children at such institutions and so, they see allegations of prolonged physical abuse as particularly serious.
The child has been examined medico-legally and the investigation continues.
Police will examine CCTV footage, statements from the family and school staff, medical findings and other evidence before deciding what kind of action to take.
The case also highlighted the importance of proper supervision and timely intervention with school and childcare centres.
But as the investigation continues, we will discover what happened, who was involved and whether any supervisory failures contributed to the alleged abuse.
