The bus was in high-speed traffic at the time of the crash, and when it lost control and crashed into many vehicles on a busy street, people went mad, the bus driver said.

Early on, the bus struck multiple two-wheelers and other vehicles before stopping; it hit people in it and continued to run into a taxi, police said. One of its passengers was critically injured and sent to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared the victim dead, the police said. Three others injured in the collision are currently being treated and are in stable condition.

Witnesses described chaos as the bus roared in the direction of the road. The driver and others attempted to escape from the speeding bus, but no time to act on the crash was given to the quickness of the crash. Residents and even neighbours rushed to help the injured before the emergency services got to it.

Police and traffic officials arrived right away and began a rescue and traffic management operation. The damaged vehicles were removed from the highway to return traffic to normal speed, and emergency workers sent the injured to nearby medical facilities.

The accident has been registered as a case, and the investigation has started. It is believed that the accident was caused by overspeeding, though mechanical failure or driver negligence could also be a factor.

The bus driver has been taken into custody for questioning, and police are examining CCTV footage from nearby places to reconstruct the sequence of events. Statements from eyewitnesses are also being recorded as part of the investigation.

The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety and reckless driving in the national capital. Residents and commuters have asked authorities to enforce tighter traffic regulations and perform regular inspections of public transport vehicles to avoid similar incidents.

We urge drivers to follow traffic rules and be safe in their driving, as overspeeding is still one of the leading causes of deadly road accidents across the country, they said, and overspeeding is the reason for the most fatal road accidents in the country, according to the authorities.
