The Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) arrested 33-year-old Mohammed Hanif, who resides in Nayandahalli and manages a local NGO on a complaint of years of sexual harassment, financial cheating, and caste-based abuse. Hanif, who also runs a private YouTube channel, is said to have played the part of a mediator to assist the victim in recovering property sold by her estranged husband, the court said.
The Web of Deceit
This victim and her husband, Nagaraj, were living separately as a result of domestic disputes. She had no idea Nagaraj sold a school the couple had created together, according to reports. In 2025, fearing they would lose their school, a mutual acquaintance introduced the victim to a man named Shabbir, who brought her to Mohammed Hanif.
Hanif supposedly assured the victim he would use the power of his NGO to bring the school property matter to a solution. He even named her "State President" of his NGO in order to build trust with her.
Allegations of Sexual Assault and Drugging
The complaint says Hanif’s help became a nightmare in relatively short order. He alleged that "Kerala Gurus" gave them a special medicine for a ritual of winning back the school. At multiple events, he is said to have introduced this medication into the victim's tea causing her to become semi-conscious and later sexually assaulted her at his house and office.
Moreover, the accused allegedly extorted approximately ₹16 lakh from the woman who told her the money was used for legal and administrative fees needed to recover the school.
Conversion to Hinduism, and Caste-Based Abuse
After that, when the victim discovered that the school never improved, Hanif allegedly pressured her to convert her religion and marry him. When she declined and confronted him, Hanif purportedly hurled vile caste-based slurs and threatened her with dire results. Legal Action and Arrest. The victim initially approached the Byatarayanapura Police Station, where an FIR was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Due to the nature of the caste-based allegations, the case was transferred to the Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) wing for specialist investigation. Following detailed investigation, Hanif was tracked down and arrested by DCRE officials on Wednesday.
