Mysuru, the cultural capital of Karnataka, was witness to the visit of Durga Stalin, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on Tuesday. Her visit was to bring together spiritual devotion and a warm meeting with senior political leaders and was well-received by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu political circles.
Durga Stalin started her trip by going to the Chamundi Hills, one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in South India. She gave prayers at the ancient Chamundeshwari Temple to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of Mysuru and the royal family of the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore.
Durga Stalin attended special religious rituals at the temple and sought the blessing of Goddess Chamundeshwari. Temple authorities allowed her darshan, and she spent some time at the shrine. The temple draws thousands of devotees in a day and is one of Karnataka’s most important spiritual landmarks.
After she visited the temple, Durga Stalin went to the residence of senior Janata Dal (Secular) leader and Chamundeshwari constituency MLA G. T. Devegowda, known as GTD. Her visit to the veteran politician’s residence became one of the highlights of the day.
In the house, Durga Stalin met GT Devegowda and his wife warmly and respectfully. And in a sign of traditional Indian values and respect for elders, she reached out to them and touched their feet. The gesture was well received by people and quickly became a topic of discussion among politicians and residents.
The meeting was attended by D. Annapoorna Vishweshwarayya and her husband, who welcomed the distinguished guest and participated in the meeting. Friendly conversations and discussions on different topics were held.
The leaders and family members had some chats and exchanged pleasantries, sources said. In spite of no political agenda, the interaction highlighted the personal rapport among prominent Karnataka and Tamil Nadu figures.
Durga Stalin is known to be often involved in spiritual and cultural activities, and her visit to Mysuru was an indication of her continuing association with religious tradition. And temple worship and meeting the nation’s highest priests and public figures made the visit significant.
