A tragic incident has been reported from Mysuru district, where a six-month-old baby lost her life after accidentally choking on a dried hibiscus flower. The heartbreaking event occurred in Doddahosur village of Hunsur taluk, leaving the local community in shock.
According to initial reports, the infant, identified as Chinmayi Gowda, was playing near the entrance of her home where dried hibiscus flowers had been kept as part of a pooja ritual. While playing unattended for a brief moment, the baby reportedly picked up one of the dried flowers and swallowed it.
Soon after, the child began to show signs of severe breathing difficulty. Alarmed by her condition, the parents immediately rushed her to a nearby private hospital in Mysuru for emergency treatment. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, the infant could not be saved.
Medical examination later revealed that the dried hibiscus flower had become lodged in the baby’s throat, causing choking and ultimately leading to suffocation. Doctors confirmed that the obstruction in the airway was the primary cause of death.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. While it appears to be an accidental tragedy, officials are following standard procedures to document the case and gather all necessary details.
The incident has raised awareness about the importance of child safety at home, especially when it comes to small objects that can pose choking hazards. Experts advise parents and caregivers to ensure that infants are not left unattended and that potentially dangerous items, including dried flowers, small toys, or pooja materials, are kept out of reach.
Local residents have expressed grief over the untimely loss of the child, with many offering condolences to the bereaved family.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of how quickly accidents can occur, particularly with infants who are naturally curious and tend to explore objects by putting them in their mouths. Authorities and health professionals continue to urge parents to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to avoid such tragedies.
