A major security incident occurred in Bengaluru when suspected explosive components were found on a route planned to be used by Narendra Modi during his visit to the city.
These revelations about the seriousness of the incident have attracted several of the larger national security agencies, like the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and National Security Guard (NSG), to the scene to join the investigation along with local police and intelligence.
Suspicious explosive substances were found when security measures had to be sanitised, and routes checked out in the pre-Prime Minister’s presence, early reports said. Security personnel immediately closed the area and activated emergency procedures to counter any threat.
Bomb disposal crews and forensic experts were brought to the scene to inspect them. Are the explosives planted on purpose as a special security threat, or were they left to another cause? The discovery prompted a massive security alert throughout Bengaluru, leading to more police deployment and heightened surveillance in some key areas linked to the prime minister’s stay.
Several roads were on high-security clearance, and for a while, intelligence agencies assisted with investigations. The kind and quantity of explosives recovered have not been revealed publicly, officials said. But sources say it was treated with the utmost seriousness because it was routed to the Prime Minister’s convoy.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and also pursuing potential suspects who might have accessed the route prior to the security sweep. Intelligence agencies are also trying to determine if any extremist or anti-national organisations could be associated with the incident.
The NSG, well-established for high-risk counter-terror operations and VIP security threats, is said to have carried out an independent assessment of the area. RAW officials are also scanning potential outside or controlled threat vectors. The Karnataka police have since told the public that all action has been taken and posed no immediate threat to the prime minister.
The discovery also further reinforced security plans for the visit. It has sparked political reactions and renewed discourse around VIP security protocols in India, particularly around high-profile public tours. Once some preliminary forensic and intelligence reports have been compiled, authorities should be expected to release more information.
