Faridabad Businessman's Death Under Probe After Social Media Video Names Wife, In-Laws

A 28-year-old businessman was found dead inside his garment shop in Haryana’s Faridabad on Sunday and a police investigation erupted after a video posted on social media before his death was posted online. The allegations made in the video are being investigated as part of the investigation but they are yet to be independently verified, police said.

The deceased was Rahul who had opened a garment shop only a few months ago. He met his mother at home on Sunday morning before leaving for work, the police said. A short time later he was found dead inside his shop.

Video forms part of investigation

Before his death, Rahul posted a video on Instagram in which he accused his wife Jyoti and her family of mentally harassing him. In the video he claimed that he had been in severe emotional distress and that false legal cases had been filed against him.

He also said his wife and her family should be held responsible for his death. Police have said they have stored the video as evidence and will investigate it during the course of the investigation.

Investigating officer Sanjay Kumar said the police are checking every allegation made in the video and have not come to any conclusion of any of them. Family members and other relevant people’s statements have been recorded as part of the investigation, he added.

Family Alleges Prolonged Harassment

Rahul’s family told investigators he had married Jyoti in a love marriage almost two years ago. According to relatives, the differences developed after the marriage, after which Rahul allegedly began living separately from his parents.

A family member said Rahul had been in a state of extreme emotional stress in recent months and that legal disputes between the couple had compounded his problems. The family has called on police to investigate the allegations in the video.

Police Continue Investigation

Police have not made any conclusions about the allegations and said the investigation is still in its early stages. Officers are monitoring the social media video, digital evidence and post-mortem findings as well as statements from both families before deciding on further legal action.

Officials have pleaded for restraint, saying that the claims made in the video are allegations that have to be confirmed with evidence before responsibility is determined.

The matter is still being examined.
