FIR Against BJP Karnataka X Account Over Derogatory "Scam Lord" Post Targeting CM and DCM

Political atmosphere has escalated in Karnataka when the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee legal cell filed a formal complaint against the official X (previously Twitter) handle of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka. The complaint comes on top of several social media comments that have purportedly circulated derogatory language and manipulated images aimed at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and other top ministers.

The "Scam Lord" Controversy

The argument escalated after the BJP Karnataka X account posted a graphic called “Scam Lord.”
The post was accompanied by images of the CM and DCM along with a caption that almost translates as: "The real story of the Scam Empire that is looting Karnataka day and night." The KPCC legal cell has strongly rejected language including the words "Loot" and "Scam."

Allegations of Character Assassination

  • Complaint filed at the Central Cyber Crime Police Station at Bengaluru, the Congress legal cell indicated in the complaint the following points:
  • Character Assassination: The posts are intended to induce "personality assassination" of the constitutional heads of the state.
  • Creating Confusion: It’s claimed that the BJP is trying to stir disturbance and confusion among the citizenry through derogatory phrases.
  • Misuse of social media: The legal cell claimed that the official handle of a national party is being misused to disseminate misinformation instead of helping to constructively debate politically.

Police Response

The complaint has been officially confirmed to the Central Cyber Crime police and an acknowledgment (receipt) has been given to the legal team at the KPCC. Police sources said the post’s contents will now be reviewed by the authorities to determine whether it is against sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act or provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to defamation and inciting public mischief.

Rising Tensions in 2026

That legal step will follow a vigorous dispute between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP over recent excise and land-based accusations. That said, the BJP is continuing to insist upon the resignation of several cabinet ministers on their alleged “scams,” Congress dismissed as “politically motivated fiction” designed to distract attention from the state’s developmental gains. Currently, no BJP Karnataka handle has even moved to remove the post, and there has been no formal response from party leaders to the FIR.
