Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Thursday, September 24, 2026, laid the foundation stone for the proposed Adani Arogya Mandir, a 2,000-bed healthcare institution in New Town, Kolkata.
A not-for-profit medical centre providing hospital services, medical education and advanced research facilities is planned with an investment of more than ₹4,000 crore. This could create more than 10,000 jobs in West Bengal's healthcare sector.
The foundation stone ceremony represents a major step in the healthcare project, which has been in discussion in West Bengal for several months. The facility is to be built in Action Area 2 of New Town and will be a big medical campus instead of just a regular hospital. Gautam Adani said the investment would be on the hospital, medical college and research facilities, with the hospital being an advanced medical facility.
One of the main features of the project is the provision of half of its planned beds to economically weaker sections. Of the 2,000 beds, 1,000 are expected to be reserved for economically weaker patients eligible under state and central government health insurance schemes. This is intended to broaden access to healthcare for sections of the population that may face financial barriers to treatment.
Adani Arogya Mandir to Include Medical College
The proposed Adani Arogya Mandir will bring clinical care, medical education and research in the same place. A medical college will be established with research and advanced healthcare facilities. The Adani Group’s healthcare project is part of a wider plan of investment in West Bengal announced by the group last week. The group said they would invest over ₹1 lakh crore in the state by 2035 in different industries. The healthcare facility is part of that.
