The Warangal Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday trapped Govindaraipet Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) Nellutla Srujan Kumar while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 at his office in Govindaraipet Mandal in Telangana's Mulugu district.
According to The New Indian Express, the officer allegedly demanded money from a complainant in exchange for carrying out an official favour of succession of ancestral agricultural land to the complainant's wife, Linagala Srilatha.
The complainant, who was unwilling to pay the bribe, approached ACB officials. The agency then conducted an operation and trapped the MRO while he was allegedly accepting the money at his office.
MRO Allegedly DEMANDED Money For Land-related Work
The complainant's wife has inherited ancestral agricultural land in the name of the complainant.
As reported by the report, Srujan Kumar had initially demanded a higher amount from the complainant. After some negotiations, the alleged bribe demand was reduced to Rs 14,000. Instead, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau instead of making the payment independently.

The ACB then set up the trap operation. The officials caught the MRO while he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount inside the Mandal Revenue Office.
The operation was conducted after the complainant formally approached the agency with an allegation of a bribe demand.

After that trap, officials filed a case against the MRO. The accused officer was taken into custody and later produced before a court, officials claimed in The New Indian Express.
The case is now under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Further proceedings will depend on the investigation and on the evidence collected by the agency.
Telugu news outlets also reported that ACB officials detained Srujan Kumar after he was caught accepting Rs 14,000.
ACB to Fight against Corruption
The latest operation is part of the ACB's efforts to investigate complaints of alleged bribery involving public officials in Telangana.
Revenue offices handle land-related administrative matters, such as records, succession processes, and other documentation. Such processes can involve multiple official steps, and complaints of illegal payments are one of the focal points for anti-corruption agencies.
In this case, the complainant’s decision to approach the ACB resulted in a planned trap operation rather than the alleged payment being made without intervention.
The Rs 14,000 recovery and subsequent registration of the case will later form part of the evidence in the investigation. The allegations against the officer shall be subject to due legal process.
The incident has once again highlighted the role of anti-corruption agencies in response to accusations against government officials. The ACB will investigate the circumstances under which the alleged demand and acceptance of the money were made and whether any other persons were involved.
