India's First Bullet Train Launch Date Announced: Check Route, Speed and Stations Details

India is on the verge of a new era in high-speed trains with the launch date for the country’s first bullet train on 15 August 2027. The much-anticipated high-speed railway project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor, is seen as a game changer and will cut travel time through two of India’s most important economic hubs. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently confirmed the launch date and said that operations will be in stages before the whole corridor is operational.

The ambitious high-speed railway project is long enough and based on Japanese Shinkansen technology, which has been known worldwide to be fast, safe, and reliable. Once the bullet train is completed, it will be able to run at speeds up to 320 kmph and will be the fastest train service in India.

According to the Railway Ministry's rollout plan, the first set of operations will be between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat. Following this, service will be introduced to Vapi, Ahmedabad, Thane, and eventually Mumbai. The first operation will be launched in 2027, covering about 100 kilometres between Surat and Vapi, and the expansion will proceed.

The entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor will have 12 stations. These are Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati. When the entire network is operational, passengers will be able to travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in less than two hours compared to the current rail journey of six to eight hours. Limited-stop services could complete the journey in about 1 hour and 58 minutes, while regular services may take slightly longer.

It is one of India’s most important infrastructure projects. With the backing of Japan and high-tech assistance, the high-speed rail corridor has some of the best engineering features (elevated tracks, advanced signalling systems, earthquake-resistant structures, and underground and undersea tunnels). As a result, it is one of the most advanced railway projects in India.

When Indian Railways unveiled the first official glimpse of the proposed bullet train design in May 2026, the concept of the bullet train was all over the map for rail lovers and commuters alike. The high-speed train will have world-class passenger facilities, high safety, and will travel at a speed comparable to the bullet train in the world.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train is a transformational project that can bring economic activity, connect people to people, create jobs, and pave the way for high-speed rail corridors to be built in India. And the construction is now far along, so that the countdown has been initiated to India’s first bullet train, which will change the direction of rail travel to come.
