Karnataka Braces for Week-Long Heavy Rainfall as IMD Issues Yellow Alert Across Multiple Districts

Karnataka is predicted to experience heavy rainfall over the next seven days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in many parts of the state on Thursday and Friday. As per the latest weather bulletin issued June 27, the monsoon will be active, giving light to moderate rainfall in many areas and heavy rainfall in some regions, and some districts may experience heavy downpours very soon.

The IMD has mentioned Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada coastal districts, where continuous rainfall is expected throughout the week. A Yellow Alert is issued for these districts, and heavy rain and adverse weather will likely be experienced in them. From June 27 to June 30, residents will see heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. The intensity of rainfall is expected to be high from July 1 to July 3, with monsoon activity over the coastal belt, the weather department said.

In North Interior Karnataka, weather conditions are expected to remain unstable for the next week. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms and strong winds along with slightly heavy rainfall in some districts and moderate rainfall in others. Some places may get heavy rain on June 27, especially at night.

No major heavy rain alert has been issued for the period from June 28 through July 3, and there should still be regular rain, lightning and thunderstorm activity, but the thunderstorm activity is expected to continue in the coming days and nights.

From June 30 onwards, we expect rainfall intensity to rise in the South Interior, including Bengaluru and other regions. The weather department predicted moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds on June 27 and June 28. For June 29, there is only a Green Alert, and conditions are predicted to ease for a short period of time. But meteorologists warned that rain will pick up again from June 30, and a number of areas are expected to see heavy rainfall through July 3.

The monsoon conditions may bring relief from hot temperatures, but waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localised flooding in vulnerable areas will also occur. Residents are warned of such activity, and the weather forecast and official advisories are closely monitored by officials, who have advised residents to keep in touch with weather forecasts and official advisories.

The IMD has recommended that the public should be cautious during thunderstorms and lightning. People should not take shelter under trees during lightning and should not be close to old or weak structures. Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural operations according to the changing weather conditions, and fishermen are advised to be aware of the rough weather conditions along the coast.

With heavy rainfall expected to intensify in many parts of Karnataka in the coming weeks, residents are advised to be ready for the rain and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities and weather officials.
