The temple itself, a place once closed to the faithful during the bitterly cold winter months of yore, will open for the faithful on April 22, the start of the annual pilgrimage season. The Doli throbbed with the martial tune of a military band, establishing a sense of heavy devotion in the Himalayan shrine town.

The procession was commemorated with chants, prayers, the traditional rituals and ceremonies representing the great religious significance of the occasion, with devotees and even temple personnel. The Kedarnath temple, or Temple of Lord Shiva, is one of twelve Jyotirlingas in the Kedarnath region of India that attracts the worship of Hindus.

Every year, during extreme weather events, the idol of the deity is ceremoniously moved to the winter seat and taken back to Kedarnath Dham in anticipation of the pilgrimage season. The return of Doli will also mean the reopening of all religious worship at the sanctuary site. Business preparations have been in the works for weeks.

And officials have already announced and plan ahead for any anticipated re-entry of pilgrims in the upcoming months and beyond. Among those are better infrastructure, better security facilities, better accommodation and better medical facilities. With treacherous terrain on the ground and occasional violent weather events, officials again prioritised safety. Pilgrims are to operate according to conditions defined by the administration, and prepare enough for the voyage.

Similarly, this is a devotion and a form of service to the ancestral spirit, the reopening of Kedarnath Dham bringing a high level of tourists to the area for the local economy. Each year, thousands of devotees descend on the shrine, adding to the area’s tourism and transportation sectors.

The marching military band had contributed to such a spectacular performance in the Doli procession; from discipline to devotion, the two were rolled into one amazing performance. Lots of people flocked to the observances. Those who took part in it spoke with enormous affinities and joys when they realised that such a fortunate moment had come to fruition.

As the doors of the temple swing open on April 22, devotees from India and overseas who are faithful to the Hindu deity will gather together to participate in a prayerful pilgrimage on grounds of thanksgiving. If reopened, then so too will start Char Dham Yatra, the pilgrim journey, one of the most sacred of Hindu traditions.

It is here, for Doli and the temple, its reopening due in future days, that it's high time, where it is faith, belief and the eternal linkage between the devotee and divinity in harmony between the two beings in the peaceful Himalayan atmosphere where they meet, that is the highest manifestation of energy.
