The preparations for Mysuru Dasara 2026 celebrations are in progress at all levels of the city but a decorative lighting structure incident has raised some concerns for safety when it comes to safety.
An illumination structure being installed as part of the Dasara decorations reportedly collapsed and fell onto a TT vehicle, damaging the vehicle. No lives were lost in the incident, according to the information at the time.
The incident occurred as preparations for the annual Mysuru Dasara festival were being carried out across the city. Mysuru is traditionally lit up with thousands of lights during Dasara, with major roads, circles, heritage buildings and the Mysuru Palace being lit up.
Decorative Structure Falls on Vehicle
According to the documents, a temporary decorative structure that was installed for the Dasara illumination arrangements suddenly collapsed. The structure fell on a TT vehicle that was in the vicinity and damaged parts of the vehicle.
The incident reportedly created a brief atmosphere of concern at the location. As Dasara preparation work is ongoing in areas which are inhabited by drivers and pedestrians, the stability and installation of temporary structures are particularly important safety concerns.
There were no casualties reported in the incident. But the incident, however, shows the need for inspection of temporary buildings that are being installed as part of large public celebrations.
The installation methods, the structural safety and safety arrangements of such decorative structures, particularly in places with frequent public and vehicle movement, may need to be determined by authorities and agencies in preparation.
Mysuru Dasara 2026: From October 11 to 21
Mysuru Dasara 2026 celebrations will take place from 11 October to 21 October. As per the official programme details discussed in the information provided, the Dasara inauguration will take place on 11 October.
The Dasara illumination programme will also begin on October 11. A launch event for the city's Dasara illumination is scheduled at around 6:30 pm near K.R. Hospital Circle in Sayyaji Rao Road, followed by illumination of Mysuru Palace at 7 pm.
During the Dasara period, the illumination of Mysuru Palace is from 7 pm to 10 pm every day.
The palace illumination is one of the major attractions of Mysuru Dasara, drawing tourists from different parts of Karnataka and other parts of India. The city’s streets and public locations are also decorated with colourful lighting as part of the celebrations.
Safety becomes very important in our large-scale preparation
Mysuru has the biggest visitor movement in Dasara. Big crowds are expected in and around the palace, main roads, tourist places and venues hosting cultural and entertainment programmes.
Therefore, temporary structures used for lighting, stages, barricades and electrical work require safety checks prior to and during the festival.
The collapse of the illumination structure has made the need for temporary installations to be secured even more critical. Care should be taken in locations where vehicles and pedestrians are frequently moving.
The incident did not cause any loss of life, but damage to the TT vehicle shows the dangers of temporary structures if they are not well secured.

Several Dasara Events Planned
Preparations for Mysuru Dasara 2026 are on in various areas. Gajapayana, the arrival and preparation of the Dasara elephants, has already taken place, and other elephant-related rituals and preparatory activities have also been held.
The Yuva Sambhrama is scheduled from September 28 to October 5 as part of the Dasara celebrations.
The festival programme also includes a food festival, flower show, cultural programmes, Raitha Dasara, women's and children's Dasara events and sporting activities.
Also on October 17, a drone show is scheduled at Bannimantap, adding another attraction to the festival schedule.
Safe Dasara Arrangements
Mysuru Dasara is one of Karnataka’s main cultural and tourism events and attracts visitors from all over the country. Preparations are being done at various locations, and the safety of temporary installations is a key aspect of the plan.
The illumination structure collapse has therefore highlighted the need for proper inspection of decorative structures, electrical installations and other temporary facilities before large crowds arrive.
As the October 11 inauguration draws near, preparation for this will be in full swing in Mysuru. The safety of illumination works and the temporary structures in place will be crucial for the Dasara.
The incident damaged a vehicle but, according to the information available, did not result in any loss of life. More checks of similar structures would reduce potential dangers as Mysuru gets ready for the Dasara events in 2026.
