An attempted ATM robbery in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district turned into an opportunity when two alleged thieves who came to a UCO Bank ATM with a gas cutter got trapped in the ATM kiosk.
The incident took place at an ATM in UCO Bank ATM in Nagaur, where two suspects came in with a gas cutter to break open the ATM and steal money, witnesses said. But the bank's electronic surveillance system detected their move and prevented them from taking out cash.
Bank E-Surveillance System Raises Alert
According to the information available, the two men entered the ATM carrying equipment that could allegedly be used to cut through the ATM machine.
The bank’s e-surveillance system caught the suspicious activity and started to alert officials. The warning permitted bank officials to respond before the alleged robbery could be completed.
The incident brings home the ability of real-time surveillance systems to capture suspicious activity at ATMs during hours when the bank is closed.
Bank Manager Reaches ATM Within Five Minutes
After receiving the warning, bank manager Sarika Chaudhary rushed to the ATM location.
She discovered that the two suspects were still inside the kiosk. Instead of confronting them directly, the manager said the shutter was brought down from outside, which sealed the ATM.
The move led both alleged robbers to get trapped in the kiosk.
Suspects Trapped Inside
The two men were locked inside the ATM after the shutter was lowered, he said. Their attempt to access the cash machine was stopped before they could escape from the site.
Police were notified of this, and the two suspects were taken into custody.
The incident has attracted attention because the attempted robbery ended without the suspects being able to escape from the ATM. The bank's surveillance system and the quick response of the manager apparently prevented the alleged theft.
Gas Cutter Recovered During Investigation
The suspects had allegedly entered the ATM with a gas cutter and may have intended to break into the cash compartment of the machine, they said.
Police are investigating the context of the incident and the two men who had supposedly prepared for the attack, or whether they were involved in any such incidents of this sort.
The authorities are also going to review CCTV footage and electronic surveillance data as part of the investigation.
