The recent flash floods in Nepal have raised new concerns after the chief executive of Infosys Public Services Lax Gopisetty has lost contact with the company and has not been available for comment since he was in Nepal.
Infosys is working with concerned agencies to locate the senior executive and assess his safety, the company said.
Gopisetty is the President and CEO of Infosys Public Services, an Infosys subsidiary focused primarily on public sector clients in the United States and Canada.
In the affected region he was in during the catastrophic flooding that has caused widespread destruction along the Nepal-China border.
As for Gopisetty's health, Infosys told Infosys’ immediate priority was to protect his safety and wellbeing. The company is working with the relevant agencies to get him into touch with them and is keeping a close eye on him, the company said, and will be in close contact with his family.
The floods have triggered one of the region’s biggest search-and-rescue operations ongoing for decades. Water, mud, rocks and debris swept through the region’s river systems, damaging roads, bridges, buildings and other critical infrastructure.
Rescue efforts to search for people who are missing have been challenged by hazardous weather and damaged communication networks and hampered by the mountainous terrain.
Gopisetty’s case comes amid a nationwide disaster that has left hundreds of people still unaccounted for in Nepal and neighbouring Tibet. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has also been coordinating efforts involving Indian nationals affected by the disaster.
Gopisetty has more than 30 years of experience in technology, consulting and transformation. Before this position, he held senior leadership positions with Infosys and Accenture, where he was a managing director.
His experience in technology, operations and strategic transformation is extensive.
The exact circumstances behind Gopisetty’s disappearance have not been disclosed by the company and Infosys has not confirmed his location. The company is in touch with authorities and other relevant agencies and is trying to track him.
At the same time, as the rescue operations continue in flood-affected areas, families and organizations are anxiously waiting for further news of those still missing.
The search for Gopisetty is now part of the humanitarian effort to find him as Nepal deals with the aftermath of the catastrophic flash floods.
The authorities and rescue teams are working in difficult conditions and communication and access are still some of the major challenges in many affected areas.
