As Gor spoke to ANI on the sidelines of the IX USISPF Leadership Summit 2026, he said Washington is looking forward to hosting Prime Minister Modi again. He recalled that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had personally invited the Indian Prime Minister during his visit to India earlier this year.

"Secretary Marco Rubio invited PM Modi while visiting him. We would love to have him back here. And I know he’s coming in December for the G20,” Gor said, hinting that preparations are already starting for the high-profile visit.

The upcoming G20 summit in Miami on December 14-15 will be a very important diplomatic event with the U.S. hosting a G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time since 2009 on global economic growth, trade, security, climate change and geopolitical issues.

Gor also shed light on President Trump’s proposed visit to India, saying both governments are actively working on the trip. But he said it is expected only after the US midterm elections.

It’s not any time during the midterms. It has to be somewhere next year. When the Prime Minister met him in France, the Indian side brought it up that he has been invited. We would like to make that happen sooner rather than later,” the ambassador said.

A Trump visit to India would further strengthen the strategic partnership between New Delhi and Washington, which has developed in recent years in trade, defence, technology and regional security cooperation.

Apart from the high-level visits, Gor expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations over an interim India-US trade agreement. Talks are moving fast and both countries are moving closer to finalising the deal, he said, but negotiations are complex because of the large number of sectors involved.

"Ambassador Greer has the President’s full confidence, so we are getting close to finalising that. But these are complex legal matters. We have thousands of items between our two countries that we are working on. The fact that we’ve come this far is a great sign for the relationship, and I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to wrap this up sooner rather than later,” Gor said.

And it will also strengthen bilateral trade by harmonizing the tariff system and market access and creating new business opportunities for both countries.

To emphasize the broader strategic partnership, the ambassador said economic ties between India and the United States are improving and companies from both countries are now putting in huge investments and collaborating on manufacturing, technology, clean energy, and defence.

Gor also stressed the importance of strengthening the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue which includes India, the United States, Japan and Australia. He called for regular Quad ministerial meetings and increased cooperation in the Indo-Pacific particularly in maritime security and regional stability.

Trump is very engaged with India-US relations and supports the expansion of strategic cooperation between the two democracies, he said.

Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States later this year and Donald Trump’s visit to India in 2027 will probably strengthen bilateral ties. With trade talks moving forward and both countries keen to deepen defence and Indo-Pacific cooperation, diplomatic exchanges are going to make the relationship one of the world’s most important strategic partnerships.
