President Droupadi Murmu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other senior leaders also took to social media and participated in ceremonies to pay their respects to the martyrs at war memorials across the country.
Saluting India's Military Might
The victory of 1971 cemented India's position as a dominant regional power and is celebrated as a strategic and humanitarian triumph. Heroes of the war, such as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (then Army Chief) and gallantry award recipients like Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal (PVC) and Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon (PVC), are remembered for their extraordinary bravery and leadership.
The commemoration events throughout the day, including wreath-laying ceremonies at the National War Memorial and various other military tributes, served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the over 3,843 Indian soldiers who were martyred in the conflict.
Vijay Diwas is not just a day of remembrance but a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Indian Armed Forces and a cornerstone of national pride.
