Congress leader Priyanka Vadra attacked the Centre and accused it of prioritising a proposed Vande Mataram Bill over real issues about India’s educational system and young people and the country’s welfare.

"The Centre is tabling a Bill on Vande Mataram instead of focusing on the education system," she said, stressing that critical issues affecting students are not getting enough attention.
Her remarks came at a time when education policies and youth-related issues are in an ongoing political debate. Priyanka said strengthening the education system is more important than symbolic legislation and quality education is key to the country’s future.
The Congress leader also spoke in support of her brother and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who has been at the center of several political battles in recent weeks.
"My brother is strong, and he can bear anything," Priyanka said, reaffirming her confidence in Rahul Gandhi amid the political exchanges between the opposition and the ruling alliance.
With one of her strongest remarks, Priyanka questioned the importance of patriotism if the country’s youth are not safeguarded and supported.
"And what is the meaning of Vande Mataram if we cannot safeguard our youth?" she asked.
By attaching national pride to the government's responsibility to young people, her statement attempted to connect the two. Priyanka believes patriotism should be expressed in both symbolic ways and in policymaking opportunities for education and youth safety and well-being.
The Congress has in recent years consistently criticised the government for poorly handled exams, recruitment delays, unemployment and the state of education in India. As young India has been estimated to have a population of over 1 billion people, the opposition argued that reforms should continue to be a priority.
But the ruling alliance is defending its governance record, and it has done various things to strengthen education, develop digital learning, develop skills, and support higher education. Government leaders have said that national standards and cultural heritage are also at the heart of nation-building.
Priyanka Vadra’s remarks are likely to add to the political debate in Parliament, where both the government and the opposition are inching closer to a political party stand-off in relation to legislative priorities and issues affecting students and young voters.
