The deceased were identified as Paramjeet Singh Khalsa, 13, and Dilpreet Singh, 21. A third friend, Marinder Singh, 15, is in a medical condition and is recovering, police said. They were friends and lived in the same district, local officials said.

Police officials said Dilpreet Singh had contacted his two friends and told them he was in distress. The three friends were found to be badly injured upon meeting up. Family members and residents rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Paramjeet Singh died soon after being admitted to the hospital. Dilpreet Singh died the next day, August 11, while he was being treated. Marinder Singh is still under medical care, and doctors say he is improving.

One of the friends had been financially devastated by online gaming, the initial findings indicate. Losses may have resulted in extreme psychological stress and anxiety, police said.

The investigation is still being conducted, and all aspects of the case are being considered, police said in a statement. Family members, friends, and any other people who could have information they would like to contribute to the case are being interviewed. Digital records and other documents are being sifted through to help us understand the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.

Police said the families of the deceased have not filed a formal complaint. But it is serious enough that authorities have registered a case on their own and started a detailed investigation.

The incident has reignited concerns about the growing popularity of online gaming and the risks of excessive spending on gaming platforms. Mental health professionals have long warned that financial loss, especially among young people, can lead to severe stress, anxiety and hopelessness if not treated promptly. Open communication, emotional support and early intervention are crucial when people experience distress, experts say.

The three were friends for years, said the community. People have sought help for what is wrong in gaming for a good cause, and how to do it right.

With the investigation still ongoing, authorities urge families and communities to pay close attention to signs of emotional distress among young people. This incident is a strong reminder of the need for mental health awareness, responsible online behaviour, and strong support systems for people facing personal or financial problems.
