Shivamogga, October 4: The central government has sanctioned ₹466.74 crore for development of Shivamogga City Bypass and highway improvement works in Karnataka. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said the money would help to build the remaining section of the four-lane Shivamogga City Bypass on NH-206 (NH-69).
The sanctioned funds are expected to bring a major push to infrastructure development in and around Shivamogga. According to the Union Minister, the project includes the construction of the remaining 4.74-kilometre four-lane section of Shivamogga City Bypass. In addition to the bypass construction, one-time improvement works will also be done on the existing national highway within the city limits where the bypass is being developed.
The project will have a significant impact on the movement of vehicles through Shivamogga. At present, there is traffic going through the city and cars moving through the area can lead to congestion on key roads. Once the bypass is completed, through traffic can be diverted away from busy city areas, thereby pulling long-distance vehicle movement away from local traffic.
The four-lane bypass will make the NH-69 corridor more connected, and passengers and goods moving through it easier. The project would reduce local roads’ traffic pressure and make Shivamogga travel faster and easier. It will also benefit business vehicles and freight movement through the region as well.
The main positive of the project is the reduction in travel time and traffic congestion. Better road infrastructure will make vehicles more efficient, particularly in areas with traffic jams during peak hours. The separation of through traffic and local traffic will make the roads (and other areas of the city) safer and easier for residents, pedestrians, and local commuters.
Another key part of the planned development is road safety. Modern four-lane highway infrastructure with improvements to existing stretches is expected to create better conditions for motorists. The project could reduce congestion-related risks and improve traffic flow along the corridor.
The investment will also help the local economy. Shivamogga is a very important commercial and administrative centre in the Malnad region of Karnataka, and better road connectivity will facilitate transportation between the city and the surrounding areas. Faster movement of agricultural goods, industrial products, and other commodities will also help businesses, transport companies, and local markets.
Improved road infrastructure can also enhance connectivity between Shivamogga and other important parts of Karnataka. So the bypass will not only be a traffic management project but a major infrastructure investment on a broader regional level.
The ₹466.74 crore allocation is very important to complete the remaining part of Shivamogga City Bypass. The four-lane stretch and the road improvement work will be completed by the end of the year, and commuters will experience smooth traffic flow with lower delays and better road connections.
📢Karnataka🛣️ In Karnataka, we have approved ₹466.74 Cr. for the construction of the remaining 4.74 km stretch of the 4️⃣-lane Shivamogga City Bypass on NH-206 (New NH-69), along with One Time Improvement works on the existing NH within the city portion being bypassed. The project will strengthen connectivity along the NH-69 corridor and decongest Shivamogga by separating through traffic from local traffic. The completed four-lane bypass will enable faster and smoother movement of people and goods, reduce travel delays, improve road safety, and enhance overall mobility while supporting regional economic activity. #PragatiKaHighway #GatiShakti @PMOIndia @DKShivakumar @JoshiPralhad @ShobhaBJP @bhagwantkhuba @BYRBJP @BYVijayendra @BJP4Karnataka

The funding from the Central Government will accelerate the development of the project and strengthen the NH-69 corridor. With the bypass to handle through traffic and the existing highway infrastructure also being improved, Shivamogga could see a major upgrade in its road transportation network.
The project will in all likelihood improve mobility, road safety, movement of people and goods, and economic growth in the region. The completion of the remaining 4.74 km four-lane bypass will be closely watched as Shivamogga continues to expand as a key urban and commercial centre in Karnataka.
