When one man purportedly killed his wife by placing her in a wooden box and tried to hide his crime in a missing person report, Surat community residents were horrified. This cruel case again showed what lengths people will go to conceal atrocities.
The killing was carried out by a criminal, Vishal Salvi (40), who had killed his wife, Shilpa Salvi (39), in their home. It was later alleged that he had hidden her body in a wooden storage box in his home after the crime. Vishal then put the police on notice due to his wife’s disappearance.
But the inconsistencies in his evidence did raise the suspicion among the professionals involved: the conclusion was clear - something had happened which would lead to even greater suspicion. The police began to search the couple’s house, interviewing the accused as part of the investigation.
Police discovered the victim’s corpse in the wooden box. The shocking disclosure of the incident came to be what they had said was intended to cover up a disappearance and a crime. Shilpa Salvi was a nutrition expert and advocate of healthy living with nutritionist services. She disappeared, and at first, some of her friends and customers panicked, but the reality has been somewhat more complicated for many.
This story prompted investigators to open a murder case against Vishal Salvi and to arrest him. He has been put in court and remanded, following charges raised throughout the investigation, into judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing. The authorities are going to make it a point to determine what his motives were and to collect just a smidgen of evidence now.
Forensic agencies are now monitoring the site and will soon identify the pattern of death, according to police officials, in the wake of what’s known among state officials. Investigators said they want to know whether there were previous fights or other problems between the couple before the crime.
The case has focused national scrutiny, and people across the country have been left feeling the shock and incredulity at the degree of barbarity of the crimes against them and how it was organised according to the same pattern of crimes over and over again in their planning. In so doing, this is as painful a reminder as you can have that domestic disputes can turn into a tragic, irrevocable tragedy.
