A shooting outside a high school in western Turkey’s Manisa province has left at least 11 people wounded, according to later reports, after an attacker opened fire near the school on Tuesday morning. Two of those wounded were reported to be in serious condition.
The incident took place at 8 a.m. local time in the Turgutlu neighborhood of Manisa in the vicinity of Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School.
At least five people were wounded, one among them students, Reuters reported. As news of the shooting expanded, the number of injured was raised to eight and then 11.
According to reports, the attacker opened fire outside the school as students were arriving. Emergency services were quickly alerted and police and medical teams were sent to the area. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Manisa governor’s office said it received a report of gunfire in the vicinity of the vocational and technical high school in Turgutlu at about 7:59 a.m. local time. Security forces arrested the suspected attacker.

Later on, the suspected shooter was identified as a student in the school. The Associated Press reported the suspect was 15 years old and had used a shotgun taken from his grandmother’s home.
The motive behind the attack was not immediately established. Turkish authorities are investigating the circumstances around the shooting and security was increased around the school.
The incident has reignited fears about school safety and access to guns in Turkey. Turkey already had two school shootings in April 2026, and officials had announced tighter security measures for the 2026-27 academic year that also included stronger firearms control.
Parents and others gathered outside the school after the attack as emergency and security operations were continuing. The officials are trying to work out the full sequence of events and why the shooting happened.
