Zepto Riders Protest Against Low Pay, Demand Fair Wages for Survival and Justice

Delivery riders form the spine of India’s fast growing. Zepto riders have been protesting low pay recently, and they’re in a good state and deserve it from a high-quality perspective. It has been reported that riders earn only ₹15 per delivery. They make ₹450–500 a day after working seven hours. If you have a large business that gets lots of funding but pays huge ads for expansion and expansion costs, it is an issue because underpayment raises questions of fairness and sustainability.

All these protests underscore the brutal reality of gig work in India. Riders spend long hours on the road to avoid traffic, weather and dangers, and they make very little, often around ₹15 a delivery. Many riders say the profits of the firm rely on their involvement. From this fact they have turned to demand better pay.

Fair pay is more than charity, it's something to sustain your business. Low pay is bad for morale and turnover goes up and service quality suffers. Fast deliveries from people will be OK to everyone today but if the people doing them cannot survive on their wages, the system will collapse. A company cannot lay down a strong structure on a very weak basis. Riders are entitled to dignity, respect, a place to be and an award on the payment.

The gig economy in India is booming, with firms such as Zepto & Swiggy and Zomato all coming after us. Investors pour funds and so do workers–and so too often the workers themselves at the bottom of it. But the bigger issue, as Zepto was very successful but is still far bigger, is that it is always spreading its wings and advertising its services to attract more people.

Zepto has to understand that increased rider payouts are also not just about “fair play” as in what people deserve but about their future and survival all too. Better paying riders would increase loyalty and less attrition, and it better brands it too when people will be in their own minds. Policymakers too need to act on jobs and protect gig workers’ rights under labor law and the law of employment as they are in need and that can all be done by consumers to help riders with their battles and hold companies to account.

The protests of Zepto riders are a wake‑up call for everyone. You cannot maintain your business at a time when you do not care about your employees or what they want. And fair pay promotes sustainability, respect and justice. Riders are not deliverymen; they are the heroes of the quick commerce revolution. To further build upon that foundation is the only way on this basis.
