As panic grew louder people approached on-site security personnel and administration (and stadium authorities) and stadium officials. Some fans, however, claimed their complaints were not listened to effectively, and a lot of fans gathered at those police stations and filed official reports and so many arrived to police stations in nearby towns or police stations, many taking police reports to make a police report as well.
At the police station there were a number of similar reports, indicating that the problem was really wide. According to initial reports police detained about 10 to 12 minors suspected of being involved in the thefts. The suspects were wearing t-shirts or jerseys from a team and they were holding free (and free) tickets, but cops suspect that the theft might have been connected.
Victims believe the thefts were purposefully timed. According to the victims, many had occurred during the second innings when fans were leaving their seats for refreshments or rest breaks on which thieves were able to sneak up on it.
The role for minors and the organization so organized and organized led to concerns about how such things were done with such a high security sporting event going undetected and the lack of oversight in place. And fans are demanding better security checks, enhanced surveillance for stadium operations and better accountability from the stadium authorities.
Now, the police are awaiting the full response in terms of the actual incident and of the various media claims. Police will review CCTV video and follow up on each individual in our society.
The incident has had a shadow on what would’ve been an electrifying IPL. For that reason, there are a serious need for better security measures around large domestic events with large public events that will only make it a very strong experience for us so far.
