Vijay Dahiya, who has been appointed the head coach of Delhi senior men's team for the upcoming 2026-27 domestic season. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced on 25 September 2026.
Dahiya's second stint as Delhi's coach and another chance for him to coach the team through this challenging phase in domestic cricket.
Dahiya Returns to the Delhi Setup
Dahiya replaces Sarandeep Singh as Delhi's senior men's chief coach.
The 53-year-old has a long-standing connection to Delhi cricket, both as a player and coach. He represented India in two Tests and 19 ODIs during his playing career before moving into coaching.
His previous coaching stint with Delhi was one of the biggest achievements of the team in recent times. He took the side to the 2007–08 Ranji Trophy title, ending a 16-year wait for the championship.
Second Stint Brings Fresh Responsibility
Dahiya will not be the first time he will manage the Delhi dressing room. His return will happen at a time when the team is looking to push its performance in domestic competitions.
Delhi have not won the Ranji Trophy since their 2007–08 triumph. Dahiya's previous success with the side will be an important part of the expectations surrounding his return.
A recent report said the DDCA had been working on its coaching appointments ahead of the new domestic season, with Dahiya among the candidates in the senior men's position.
Dahiya's Coaching Experience
Dahiya has worked with many teams and franchises since getting into coaching.
He has been part of the coaching setup at Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants, and also a talent scout at Delhi Capitals.
In March 2026, Gujarat Titans appointed Dahiya as their assistant coach for IPL 2026. His return to Delhi now adds another major responsibility to his coaching career.
Delhi Looking for a Domestic Revival
Delhi wants to make progress in domestic cricket so the new appointment will be a welcome addition.
Over the years the team has produced several established Indian players but consistent success in the Ranji Trophy and other domestic competitions has been a challenge.
And Dahiya will now have to work with the players, support staff and selectors to build a strong setup for the new season.
His previous experience with Delhi and knowledge of domestic cricket could be beneficial to the team in the upcoming 2026–27 campaign.
