TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp’s Vida brand were among the leading players in the latest registration figures, but TVS still retained the lead.

TVS Motor sold the most electric scooters in the month: more than 52,000 units. The TVS iQube was the most popular in the market and commuters love it for its practical and reliable electric scooter. A large dealership network and better after-sales support also worked for the company.

Bajaj Auto maintained second place with over 43,000 registrations for its Chetak electric scooter. The iconic model is still being accepted due to the premium design, long battery life and wide-ranging availability in India.

There is a steady evolution in the electric two-wheeler market where Bajaj has been able to establish itself so successfully in India: in the fast-growing electric two-wheeler space.

Ather Energy was third with more than 28,600 units sold in the month. Demand for the company’s scooters, especially the family-oriented Rizta, in particular the performance-driven 450 line-up, is strong, and Ather is now able to get a wider number of customers to buy its products in the market.

Software features, connected technology and charging infrastructure are at the heart of the company and continue to drive growth.

Hero MotoCorp’s electric mobility brand Vida received fourth place with around 20,940 electric scooters. While it is still behind the top three manufacturers, Vida has remained quite strong in terms of sales in a month as Hero expands its EV portfolio and expands its retail presence across the country.

The electric two-wheeler market as a whole was also booming in July, registering over two lakhs of vehicles.

That increase is attributed to ever-increasing fuel prices, better charging infrastructure, government encouragement and an increasing preference for environmentally friendly transport by consumers.

The latest sales results show that established automotive brands are gaining in the EV segment. TVS and Bajaj are using their extensive dealership networks, trusted brand reputation and nationwide service support to attract more buyers. Ather is still appealing to the technology-driven customers and Vida is growing in the market.

More electric scooters will be released in the coming months and competition in India's EV market is likely to be more intense. Battery technology, product innovation and charging infrastructure are very much at the forefront of the companies’ agenda for taking a bigger share of the fast-growing segment of the rapidly growing market.

TVS remains the market leader though and is now in the lead, ahead of Bajaj, Ather and Vida in the latest electric scooter sales rankings.

With consumer interest in electric mobility growing, the battle in India's electric two-wheeler market is expected to be more intense in the months ahead.
