Karuppu makers have also made it known they will take out an exchange referencing the legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, who could have been the source of conflict. The news comes as the film continues its aggressive run on stages and continues to bring in box office income.
Production: Dream Warrior Pictures, and directed by RJ Balaji (Suriya and Trisha Krishnan star in the lead roles in Karuppu). The movie was to open in theatres on May 15, after a brief one-day delay because of financial problems.
Makers Say Sorry For Ilaiyaraaja Dialogue
The production house, the official statement read, said that it deeply respected and admired Ilaiyaraaja, who was a hero of Indian cinema and music; his contribution was iconic, inspiring generations. The makers noted that a talk in one scene worried and offended.
Clarifying their position, the pair said there was “absolutely no desire to offend, hurt or disrespect” the veteran musician or diminish his tremendous contributions to cinema and music.
As in the statement, the problematic line took place in the context of a broader satire and was never meant as a personal attack on Ilaiyaraaja. The dialogue appears to take place in a passage when one of the characters refers to Jesus Christ as he speaks in a passage.
Scene Excluded From Future Subversions
The film was to be removed or modified in future versions and, where it comes on the table, subsequently in the release of any future film. The makers also apologised for the non-verbal disrespect and told viewers that countermeasures have already started to be taken. This has resonated with a wide group of fans and theatre supporters, not least of which, since Ilaiyaraaja is quite synonymous with Tamil cinema.
Karuppu Story and Cast
Karuppu centres on the drama between Karuppan, played by Suriya, and Baby Kannan, played by RJ Balaji. It was also a movie that gives you a modern version of the classic good-evil conflict and shows humans fighting one another in real life. Yogi Babu, Natty Subramaniam, and Swasika are also starring.
Suriya is said to have a dual-shaded role associated with justice and with the folk deity Karuppasamy. The film itself has even gained interest for the reunion of Suriya and Trisha after years apart.
Karuppu Box Office Collection
Notwithstanding the uproar, Karuppu remains a blockbuster. The film was also the top performer at all box office gates, according to reports in the Sacnilk trade.
According to Sacnilk's trade reports, the film has made roughly Rs 95.30 crore gross for India today and around Rs 46 crore gross abroad. Based on a total global gross of Rs 141.30 crore globally (indicating earnings from the projected budget of Rs 130 crore), the film is emerging very positively from these two factors.
