Ranveer Singh Receives ₹10 Crore Ransom Threat via WhatsApp; Security Beefed Up Outside Mumbai Residence

Bollywood stars’ safety issues come back to focus after actor Ranveer Singh was one of the victims of an extortion attack on February 10, 2026. The actor had been sent an insidious voice note via an anonymous sender on WhatsApp, according to Mumbai Police. The sender reportedly demanded a frightening amount in “crores” and warned of “dire consequences” if the demands weren’t met.

Escalation of Security at ‘Bhavnani’ Residence

Following the danger, Ranveer Singh and actor Deepika Padukone, who now reside in Mumbai, have ramped up the security at their home. Six more armed private security men are reportedly taking patrol roles at the housing complex the two have rented. The Mumbai Police have also stationed uniformed officers at the site to watch out. But the extra security has reportedly heightened the anxiety of other residents in the housing society, who have contacted the local police station as to whether armed guards could be seen in the lobby and gym.

The Lawrence Bishnoi Link?

The threat is especially worrying for authorities in light of its timing. It arrives just days after a firing incident outside the home of filmmaker Rohit Shetty in Juhu. Initial investigations into this case at Shetty have implicated the Shubham Lonkar faction, a fugitive member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Because the gang has a history of attacking such high-profile individuals as Salman Khan, the Mumbai Crime Branch is currently investigating whether the new threat to Ranveer Singh belongs, by this time, to an organised extortion ring.

Professional highs and personal threats

The move to extort comes as Ranveer Singh is indulging in the commercial bonanza of his spy feature Dhurandhar, which made more than ₹1,300 crore worldwide in late 2025. As the actor gears up for his next sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, and the much-anticipated Bhoot Bangla, this security problem has stalled his public appearances temporarily. The Mumbai Police have opened up a digital forensic investigation into the WhatsApp voice note's source. The actor has given no official statement at present.
