Bengaluru residents are being prepared for another wave of heavy rain as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a yellow alert to the city and several surrounding districts.
Torrential rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are predicted to hit some regions over the coming days, according to the weather department. It is having extensive rain cycles that are being seen in Karnataka, along with the unstable atmosphere and moisture from the Arabian Sea.
Over the past days, there has been heavy rain, waterlogging, traffic jams, uprooted trees, traffic congestion and normal movement disruptions in some parts of Bengaluru. “In hindsight, the IMD said, “Residents should pay attention particularly in the evening and late into the night as thunderstorms are forecast to become more frequent.”
Temporary flooding can occur in low-lying areas when it rains, and gusts of wind blow down tree limbs; local electricity might fail. During heavy rain, traffic would then slow down at Whitefield, Electronic City, Marathahalli, Silk Board, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Hebbal and Outer Ring Road routes with heavy flow.
Showers have already caused big jams along some of the city’s tech arteries. The weather department also has issued a warning about lightning, warning residents not to stand under trees, near electric poles or in open patches in the event of thunderstorms. Motorists have received warnings to be cautious as roads may get slick in certain rainstorms, and visibility can be reduced.
Civic authorities and emergency responders are monitoring flood-prone regions as well as stormwater drain conditions throughout Bengaluru, as the city grapples with cyclical bouts of rainfall. That in turn eased problems for now, late summer, amid forecast higher temperatures, while other lingering infrastructure issues surfaced in Bengaluru – waterlogging, potholes, drainage overflow, and traffic congestion.
Rain and thunderstorms will occur on a regular schedule and on a sporadic basis for most of the next few days, meteorologists expect, before the expected start to recover in the latter part of the week. Officials encourage citizens to follow the official weather information and prepare to travel as well.
